Rag Day 2010!

KENT RIDGE HALL HAS WON THE CHANCELLOR'S SHIELD YET AGAIN!

The atmosphere when they announced the results at the end was truly, truly amazing. Everyone just started screaming their hearts out, embracing anyone and everyone and crying out of sheer joy. Three months of hard work, by the Flag team, by the Rag team.. every small worry and discontent disappeared when KR roared her heart out in victory.

Thankyou Deo and Carol, our amazing Rag Dance choreographers. Thankyou costume stylists, for being so patient with us. Thankyou every single Rag helper! It wouldn't have been possible without you.

Thankyou KR for being there to support Rag!

KR Steppers helped out as Rag Dancers! Kudos to the amazing choreography by Deo and Carol yet again.

Photos taken off Facebook. Credits: Ian Chng, KR PhotoComm, JunKang etc.

Sunshine Smiles on everyone's faces(:

X-out!

Our poi, with LCD lights. The effect was amazing! Billy you nailed it(:

Rag dancers roaring the hakka.

It's been an amazing few months, and everyone has learnt a lot. KR Steppers was glad to have been able to help the Hall out in Rag and Flag 2010!

Rag performance 2010, presenting to you... KRohanga!

FWOC, Flag, Rag... It's hard to juggle hall activities with normal cheer training. But KR Steppers is a special cheer squad, because we can do both, and do both well(:

School's starting next week, everyone please take this weekend to rest well(: Can't wait for training to resume!

family.

there is a reason why we all stayed despite everything every year.

because steppers is more than just another cheer team to all of us.

they are who we go to when we are sad. =(

they are who we go to when we are happy. =D

they are who we go to when we need a crying shoulder. ='(

they are who we go to when we need a hug. = |

they are who we go to when we need a lame joke after a tiring day and also when we got a new lame joke to share. =p

they are also who we go to when we need a helping hand. = X

and they also who we go to when we need someone to make us stand tall and proud again. =)

steppers. it was never just a cheer team to begin with. it has and will always be family to us.

it is truly a home to all of us.

thank you for letting me be part of it.

Rest well people! Jiayou for KRohanga!

FLAG DAY 2010!

Did everyone get 2 full tin cans today? Haha dun sad if ur cans are so much lighter than ur friends :) as long as u tried ur best to collect money from those stingy auntie uncle, u are qualified as a good flagger today!

Even thou this might be ur first flag day for some of u guys, i believe u still can feel it is so much more than an annual charity event. Flag day has become a date for us to show KR spirit, fighting together and nvr giving up. Our dear master came down and put coins in each can of ours, flaggers and fwocers led us doing mass cheer before we left hall, all of this had been an unforgettable memory of today, and i believe most of u guys were inspired from it.

Waking up at 4 is terrible :( but it wont be a problem if all ur neighbours are suffering it with u!
Collecting coins should be fun :) dun be shy and we can stand there and smile all the time, haha, confirm will got alot of ppl one! Congrats yitty got one 50 bucks notes u reli rock haha. Is it because the guy think u r cute and wan ask for ur number? tsk tsk lol I know all of u guys got ur own intersting stories today, we share it personally k? haha.

It has been such a long day for us and however, we all know standing there asking for donation is boring and ineffective, so we cheerleaders had our own way to collect coins :D

good job elvina :) its damn stable haha
but all the ppl r more interested in the fire in AMKhub so we change place :)

"come donate to charity!"
eh, but i wonder got ppl can reach that high anot haha

a full day's work muz exhaust urall! rmb to drink coke haha

its past 7 alr :( but chee ling still wanna fly!
not for coins, juz for pleasure :P

Anyway :) well done everyone, we are nearer to our chancellor's shield haha, but we still got rag! remember go support KR rag this friday :) and rag dancers see u guys tmr :)

Being a KR Stepper

Tonight, I sat down and really started thinking of my team, of my KR Steppers, and what being a Stepper really means to me. I really thought about why I am in this squad, and why I am doing this.

I love cheerleading and I love striving to improve and getting stronger. I love the adrenaline rush of performing in front of an audience and I love the feeling of flying. I love the thrill of learning new things, of pushing my body to its limit. I love it when stunts go up and I love the happiness we feel when we watch videos of performances on facebook/youtube post-performance.

But even more, I love the team.

When I think back of the past year, of my first year as a Stepper, this is what I recall.
  •  I think of Deo staying up the whole night comforting me when I thought I wouldn’t get into the main team for Nationals and was crying really badly.
  • When we were running full runs and everyone’s morale was low, captain Weeps, who I had been in total awe of last year; giving me a thumbs up over some really simple stunt.
  • That thumbs up totally made my day.
  • The late nights at the rooftop/backgate/each others’ rooms, talking about nothing and everything.
  • Elvina and I crying together in the bathroom and comforting each other in each others’ rooms one fear-filled night.
  • The team sleeping together and training together in the RSU gym and drinking chaa yen and bidding for modules in that dodgy little internet cafĂ©.
  • Xiangfeng playing the guitar in my room and making me feel better one grouchy day.
  • The ‘thud’ sound that indicates Jon hitting the floor while bboy-ing.
  • Beng and Holland V stingray and the fourth floor stair well.
  • All the jokes at Billy/Wei Li’s expense ahaha(:
  • Xxy and Shiqi hugging me when I burst into tears right after our Nationals performance.

These are the things I remember. Among many, many, many others.

As much as we train, as much as it is important to improve and get the prestige our team yearns for, these are the things I remember. Failed partner stunts, correct technique… as much as these things matter now, these aren’t the things we take away in the end. These aren’t the things we remember at the end of the day.

I remember the encouragement my friends gave me. I remember the times they showed me they loved me. I remember how we fought together and how we helped each other.

We choose to remember things that touch us. We choose to remember the good times. We also choose to remember the hard times and how we pulled through it together, with the help of our friends, our fellow cheerleaders, our fellow Steppers.

KR Steppers. We aren’t a team known for being harsh. We’ve always been the team people associate with the term ‘Sunshine Smile’. Encouraging. We help each other out. We’re a Hall team. We stay together under the same roof. We’re neighbours; we’re Family.

Since Steppers was founded, we have always been known for being the cheer team that encourages, not discourages. When stunts fail, we encourage our flyer all the more. We let her believe in herself. When bases are tired, we give them a pat on the back and a can of Coke. When people don’t believe in themselves, we go to their rooms and talk to them about it. And always, always, supper together at the end of the day ahaha(:

This year, we have really high goals. It looks impossible, it’s so daunting, and all of us are scared. All of us are demoralized. We don’t seem to be progressing. The morale is low and all of us don’t believe in the amazing things we have planned. Tough times. There are tenthousand things we have to go up against.

A lot of these challenges come from within us.

But it’s ohkay. We can do this. Because we’ve got each other. No one’s doing this alone. Everyone’s fighting together.

Let’s all have hope. Believe in yourself. Believe in each other.

I am in Steppers because I love the team and because I know the team loves me back. I am in Steppers because I know that people believe in me, and this makes me believe in myself all the more. I am in Steppers not only because I love cheer, but because I love every single Stepper in the team.

I am in Steppers because it’s home.

Why are you a Stepper?(:

I think all of us need a little reminding. A friendly pat on the back, a smile during training, notes on doors, encouraging texts… small things make a difference. Let’s all show each other how much we love each other. Because these things are what we take away at the end of the day. These are the things we remember.

Get loads of rest everyone, we have a long day ahead of us. Let’s do our best to support Flag!

Ready ohkay, one two down Steppers(:

Love,
Kat.

FWOC and Homecoming Performance!

KR STEPPERS WARMLY WELCOMES ALL FRESHMEN TO KENT RIDGE HALL(:

FWOC (Freshmen Welcome Orientation Camp) 10/11 was a success! Cheers to the FWOC team for organizing four days worth of well-planned events- the freshmen really got to bond and feel at home (away from home).

Steppers helped out as FTCs (Full-Time Councillors) and had loads of fun(:

Ivan was a guider! Freshmen would come with all their luggage and we would take it from them and help them go around the hall and settle administrative issues etc.

We were FTCs for Dexio! (FWOCers: Clara and Jordan, great job!)

"Cuteboi" Wei Li.

Eden was supposed to pose for photos with the freshmen in the middle of the hall.

Some photos from FWOC:

All the freshmen seemed to have really enjoyed all the bonding games(:

Homecoming was on Saturday, the last day of FWOC; and we were putting up a performance!

Steppers at training:

It was really challenging for some of us because on top of the Homecoming Performance Steppers was putting up, some of us were involved in Rag Dance Practices, multiple Seniors' Performances, Steppers Alumni Performance, AND were Full-Time Councillors as well. We had to push Homecoming training to 2am onwards for a few nights in a row; most of us were tired and had trouble focusing. Tempers flared, and patience wore thin.

But we managed to pull through in the end!

Homecoming day:

Make-up by Yod!

Our performance was full of sunshine smiles(:

All stunts up(:

Great job everyone! Thanks Yod for the awesome choreography; this is the first time Steppers put up a routine choreographed by him. All of us loved the dance and transitions so much!

Let's all improve together, and put up an even better performance next time. Continue striving for an even better stunt, even cleaner lines, an even wider smile(:

And where would we be without the amazing people who started it all.. Steppers Alumni also put up a performance!

All stunts up too!(:

FWOC was a blast! Welcome, new KR freshmen!

Please support Flag Day (3rd August) and Rag Day (6th August)!

Have an amazing week everyone!

READY OHKAY ONE TWO DOWN STEPPERS!(:
